Yes, we are going to build a boat, a sailing boat to be precise. It seems like some crazy idea at first and on the second thought, it still stays a huge challenge. But we thought about it for quite some time now, and the time is right to start. There are a few things that fit together now, so let’s go for it.
First of all, is the Boat we plan to build: it’s the MG30 by Dudley Dix Yacht Design. It is mostly built out of plywood and fits the defunct MG30 Rule. It is a seaworthy and competitive boat, we can sail it with just the two of us, or with some bigger crews like four or five. And best of all, it fits through the door of our workshop.
That might have been the biggest challenge so far. As we build in an urban area, space is so expensive, that the costs of renting a workshop always made it impossible to do this project. But we found a solution. We are going to build in a corner of a Studio, that we will separate from the rest by some wooden construction. Because the studio belongs to one of us, we will not be under pressure there.
